Qingmei Taois a prolific scholar of Chinese drama in modern and contemporary times, whose intellectual work on drama is productively complemented by her long-standing engagement as a critic and educator in China’s flourishing contemporary theater scene. A life-long lover and practitioner of Peking opera, Guo in this book explores Peking opera as history, philosophy, practice, and experience, offering new paradigms to understand Peking opera as both rooted in broader Chinese aesthetic traditions, and as embodied and reflexive practices by practitioners who work daily on the theater stage.
